The Medjai have always been protector of man and warrior for god, but what happens when those two duties come into conflict? The Sacrifice Trilogy takes you beyond the notion of good and evil; beyond love and hate; beyond even life and death into a world filled with ancient curses, manifest gods and the power to see behind what is bound by time and space. The beginning of the Trilogy is set approximately 2 years after The Mummy Returns and events span about six years in the time of the stories, but also encompass episodes in the distant and recent past of both hero and villain. Beloved as well as new characters come together to bring deadly conflict to the world of the Medjai and to great desert sands of Egypt herself.

An ancient curse brings trouble for the Medjai after the O'Connells send for Ardeth at the request of an injured woman that stumbles into the Museum of antiquities in Cairo. Dangerous powers have been awoken and someone will die at the hands of a friend who is no longer who he seems.
Meiri has been taken to a place of safety where she lives away from Ardeth and her young son. The Medjai Elders cause trouble for Ardeth when they insist he marries a woman of their choosing or they will disinherit Suhayl. Meiri counsels Ardeth that he has no choice and reluctantly gives her permission for Ashna to come into their lives. Meanwhile an ancient evil has been summoned into the body of an innocent child and Evelyn O'Connell, suffering from a severe case of post partum depression after her daughter was stillborn, is missing. A series of deaths among the Medjai chosen to guard the bells from the Sistrum of Usert draw Ardeth away from his new bride and into a race against time to stop an evil cult from opening the doorway to Hell itself.

When Katharine O'Connell begins to behave strangely and experience supernatural occurrences, her family have no choice but the risk death and return to Egypt to find the answers. Meanwhile an Elder of the Medjai commits the ultimate act of betrayal, allowing raiders to decimate the oasis home of the Medjai. Ardeth must find his son and try to prevent a war between the gods that would bring about the next apocalypse.
